If you have been driving around the Moreton Bay region recently, you have surely passed one of the large blue billboards on the side of the road, that remind you of that 1969 Beatles classic.
Here comes the sun (doo doo doo)
No, its not a new Beatles tour (we wish)
Its the new Moreton Bay University of the Sunshine Coast precinct, conveniently located in Petrie, directly opposite the train station. With construction underway, we are very excited to see the new opportunities and life, that this space will give to the area and especially our little town, Kallangur.
USC Moreton Bay is being built on 10.5 hectares on the site of the former Petrie Paper Mill. Stage One will include:
- more than 16,000 square metres of floor space over three levels
- a 400-seat lecture theatre for teaching and community events
- $10 million of state-of-the-art technology, including simulation facilities, engineering facilities, and a makerspace
- a core commitment to renewable energy
Moreton Bay is conveniently the only local government area, with a population of nearly 400,000 people that is not supported by a university precinct. This is great news for us, with a first intake of 1,200 students expected and a choice of almost 50 study programs including business, education and computer science. This university will provide ample opportunities for locals to study top courses, without the need to travel into the bustling city. Mums, dads and school leavers will each be able to study within an easy drive from home.
We look forward to seeing this project complete within the next few months.
